Álvaro Parente reached today an excellent second place in the Paul Ricard test the Blancpain Endurance Series, demonstrating that smoothly, the Portuguese and their teammates are candidates for top of the standings.
The pilot of the Port aligned fifth in the grid, but throughout their shift to win positions, handing the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Hexis Racing's Steff Dusseldorp third. With the excellent work of the French team, the English car came to run in the lead, Alexander Sims was already onboard, but the Englishman could not sustain the tempo top winner, crossing the line in a good second place.
"Finally a race without problems! I think we were all very well - any of us made good shifts and the team has been extraordinary in the pit-stops, which allowed us to win seats. We were very fast, but at the end of each stint, the car lost efficiency in the tires, which prevented us from fighting for victory. It was impossible to go beyond the second place, "said the McLaren driver GT.
Today's result comes after a phase of difficult races, leaving Álvaro Parente hopeful that, as of now, can fight for the top spots, although we know there is still some work ahead. "Today's result shows that we have the potential for being in the top positions, as all were very good.
However, we have improved the tip end of each shift, since the behavior deteriorates gradually, which makes the life of the pilots quite difficult. I believe we will improve and I am convinced that we will be among the first in the next proof, "said the Portuguese driver.
The next stage of the Blancpain Endurance Series are the mythical 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, held on 28 July. However, before the Portuguese driver will have another round of the FIA GT Series at Zandvoort next weekend, week, league where team up with Sébastien Loeb.
